How Our Club Works

Members’ dues entitle them to reserve and use our club lands as often as they wish. To get a good feel of how our club works you can download a pdf user guide or view our orientation video on YouTube!

American Sportsmen’s Club leases private land in Michigan for our members’ private and exclusive use. We locate the good habitat, negotiate for exclusive access with the landowner and then enforce the contract. Just by obtaining a (transferable) lifetime membership and paying annual dues, our members can reserve properties to hunt, fish, or camp as often as they like. They set their own schedule for all seasons and all types of local game, and without any competition from others. All habitat is completely natural, and usage is managed by the club to avoid overuse. Because of our affiliation with AWA, a huge inventory of properties, over two hundred thousand acres-ensure good land for every outdoorsman, regardless of the desired game or season. Harvest reports and sighting reports filed by other members enable you to pick the right property for you and your group.

In short, American Sportsmen’s Club does the work our members don’t want to (and don’t have time for)! We eliminate the guesswork and wasted time so you can spend more time really enjoying the outdoors!

Why ASC instead of my own lease?

Many potential members wonder what advantage an ASC member has over someone who finds their own lease. With ASC, a member does not have to knock on doors and negotiate a lease. If they do find a property to lease, the property owner may require liability insurance in case of an accident. Michigan law protects landowners from liability if they allow hunting on their land for free. However, once a lease with monetary compensation is in place, they open themselves to liability. ASC finds the property, negotiates a lease, and provides liability insurance to the landowner. Instead of spending precious time hunting for property to lease, ASC members can put that effort into scouting and hunting for the game they seek. Also, as each year passes, the chances that a particular property is sold or developed grows. ASC members do not have to worry about missing a hunting season because the new landowner doesn’t like hunting, or has developed the property.

Another advantage an ASC member has is the shear amount of property available. At current land lease costs, the average hunter will be able to lease 50 acres of property for the cost of an ASC membership. ASC members have access to nearly 3500 acres in Michigan, alone. If one particular property becomes unproductive during the hunting season, the ASC member can move to another property at a moments notice. No one can guarantee the productivity of a particular piece of hunting property from one year to the next, but with ASC, you are guaranteed that you will have access to quality,
productive hunting property year in and year out.

In addition to the property available in Michigan and Ohio, ASC members can access nearly 250,000 acres of land in 13 other states. If you have ever considered a whitetail deer hunt in Kansas or Iowa; or a pheasant hunt to South Dakota; or a mule deer or elk hunt in Colorado, ASC is perfect for you. ASC will even help you set up your dream hunt and assist in acquiring landowner tags in hard to draw units. Or you can tag along on one of the club sponsored hunts throughout the hunting season.

Finally, is the camaraderie of belonging to a club of diverse and dedicated hunters. Throughout the year; ASC will sponsor hunts, member meetings, and our annual wild game dinner for the members to get a chance to meet each other, and hopefully produce lasting friendships.
